A 3D printer used in conjunction with a 3D scanner has managed to make one BC resident’s cancer therapy much easier. The patient had a face tumour and their doctor was looking to make a prostheitc for their face. This would usually involve making a mold with plaster, but the patient also suffered from claustrophobia and pain that didn’t make this option very attractive. 3D scanning allowed them to scan the patients face in a very non-intrusive manner and use that information to create a mold for which a prosthetic could be made. Truly a giant leap for 3D printing in Canada.
